Home Learning

At Forty Hill C of E Primary School we believe that childhood is a time for adventure and discovery. We would like our children to have time for sustained imaginative play, conversations, reading for pleasure and outdoor exercise. That said, we acknowledge the Government’s recommendation that we set homework. Evidence also shows that where parents are involved with their children’s learning, the children gain confidence and make more secure progress.

Our younger children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 do not receive Home Learning as they will be very tired after a full day of learning, but we highly recommend will benefit a daily shared reading time with an adult, where they can also practise their phonics learning and develop their vocabulary and conversation skills.

At Forty Hill we believe in developing the whole child, academically as well as spiritually, morally, socially and culturally. For our older children, w understand that some parents like lots of homework whereas others wish for none at all. In order to find a ‘best fit’, we provide weekly Maths and Spelling tasks for Years 2-6 to be completed at home as well as an expectation to read daily (school and home books) and record in their Reading Journals. Your child will also have access to Times Table Rockstars and the Emilie Spelling programme online to support their learning at home.
