We implement the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework alongside the intent to support children in their understanding of faith, hope and service ensuring that every child’s early educational experience is rich and meaningful.  Our provision promotes being curious and interactive environments allow children to follow and explore their curiosity first hand. We seek to develop a love of learning which will remain life-long.   

Early Years at Forty Hill

At Forty Hill, our Early Years curriculum is built around our values of Faith, Hope and Service.

Faith

We help children feel safe, valued and included. We celebrate different cultures, beliefs and traditions and teach children to respect themselves and others.

Hope

We encourage children to be curious, confident and resilient. Through play and learning, children are encouraged to try new things, learn from mistakes and believe in their abilities.

Service

Children learn to care for and help others. Through teamwork, sharing and our Global Neighbours project, they begin to understand how they can make a positive difference to their school, community and wider world.

Our EYFS Curriculum

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and use Development Matters to support children's learning and development.

Children learn through a mixture of play, exploration and adult-led activities.

The seven areas of learning are:

• Communication and Language – developing listening, speaking and vocabulary.

• Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building friendships, confidence and independence.

• Physical Development – developing movement, coordination and safe use of equipment.

• Literacy – enjoying books, developing phonics, mark-making and early writing.

• Mathematics – exploring numbers, shapes, patterns and problem-solving.

• Understanding the World – learning about people, nature, technology, cultures and the world around them.

• Expressive Arts and Design – exploring art, music, role play, building and creativity.

Learning Through Play

Play is an important part of learning in Nursery and Reception. Children have opportunities to learn indoors and outdoors, using a wide range of resources and activities.

We encourage children to talk, explore, ask questions, work together and develop their independence.

Supporting Every Child

We observe children regularly to understand their progress and plan activities that meet their individual needs. We use Tapestry to share photographs, observations and learning with parents and carers.

We work closely with families so that parents can be involved in and support their child's learning journey.

Our aim is to help every child become a confident, happy, curious and caring learner, ready for the next stage of their education.
